Tank Level Sensors

A sensor fitted in or under the tank measures the fuel level directly and reports litres to the platform, for vehicles and equipment that do not share fuel data over CAN.

What it does

  • Capacitive in-tank or ultrasonic sensors
  • Calibration to each tank's shape and size
  • Litres reported with each position
  • Refuel and drop detection
  • Support for one or two tanks per vehicle
  • Readings independent of the vehicle's gauge

Why it matters

  • Fuel data on any vehicle or tank
  • An independent check on refuels
  • Reliable basis for theft alerts
  • Data that stands up in disputes

How it works

The sensor connects to the tracker, which sends the reading to the platform. A calibration table converts the sensor value into litres for that specific tank.

Good to know

Accuracy depends on correct installation and calibration, so sensors are fitted and calibrated by trained technicians and checked after installation.

Common question

Does the tank need drilling? Capacitive sensors are fitted through the tank; ultrasonic sensors mount underneath without drilling. The choice depends on the tank.

Capacitive or ultrasonic?

  • Capacitive sensor: fitted through the tank and measures the level from inside.
  • Ultrasonic sensor: mounted under the tank with no drilling.
  • The type is chosen by the tank’s shape and material and how the vehicle or machine is used.

Why calibration is what makes it accurate

The sensor measures the height of the fuel, while the platform needs litres. Because tanks differ in shape and size, each tank gets a calibration table that turns the sensor reading into litres for that specific tank. That is why trained technicians install and calibrate the sensors, and every sensor is tested after installation.

Tank sensor or CAN data?

If the vehicle exposes fuel data on its CAN bus, it can be read with an adapter such as the ALL-CAN 300, with no sensor in the tank. For vehicles, machines and generators that do not expose this data, or when you need a reading independent of the vehicle’s own gauge, an in-tank sensor is the answer.

Frequently asked about fuel sensors

Does the tank need drilling?

A capacitive sensor is fitted through the tank; an ultrasonic sensor is mounted underneath without drilling. The choice depends on the tank.

Can it handle a vehicle with two tanks?

Yes, one or two tanks per vehicle can be monitored.

Does it work for generators and fixed tanks?

Yes, generator and fixed-tank monitoring is part of the fuel monitoring solution.

What decides the accuracy?

Accuracy depends on correct installation and calibration for each tank’s shape, which is why every sensor is tested after installation.

How does the reading reach the platform?

The sensor connects to the tracker, which sends the litres with every position, so refuels and drops appear tied to the vehicle’s place and time.
