Fuel Theft Detection

Get alerted when fuel leaves the tank in ways it should not: sudden drops while the vehicle is parked, refuels that do not match the receipt, and consumption that does not match the work done.

What it does

  • Sudden drop alerts with time and location
  • Drain detection while the engine is off
  • Refuel amounts compared with receipts
  • Unusual consumption compared with similar vehicles
  • Event history for investigation
  • Daily summary of suspicious events

Why it matters

  • Theft spotted the same day
  • Evidence for investigations
  • A deterrent once drivers know it is monitored
  • Lower fuel cost per kilometre

How it works

A calibrated tank sensor or CAN fuel data reports the level continuously. The platform watches for drops that do not match driving and links each one to the vehicle's position and status.

Good to know

Detection accuracy depends on the reading method and on proper sensor installation and calibration for each tank shape.

Traditional

Monthly fuel invoices reconciled by hand, months after the fact.

With Amancom

Every fill matched to a vehicle, a location and a distance, the same day.

Common question

Can it detect siphoning on parked trucks? Yes, when a level sensor or CAN data is in place, a sharp drop with the engine off triggers an alert.

What the system watches for

  • A sudden drop in tank level while the engine is off or the vehicle is parked.
  • A refuel recorded while the vehicle has not moved.
  • A refuel off the vehicle’s route, or at a time it was not there.
  • Less fuel in the tank than the invoice or card shows.
  • Higher consumption than similar vehicles on similar routes.

We explain these patterns in detail in the guide “Six patterns that reveal fuel theft”.

What you need

  • A tracker that records route, distance and ignition.
  • A calibrated fuel-level sensor in the tank, or fuel data from the CAN bus if the vehicle provides it.
  • Fuel cards linked to vehicles, with spending limits per vehicle, driver or branch.

After the alert: how to check

Every suspicious event is logged with its time, place and vehicle status, so you can review the route around it and compare it with the invoice. A daily summary of suspicious events reaches you instead of waiting for month-end reconciliation, and the log becomes evidence for an investigation.

Frequently asked about diesel theft detection

Does it detect fuel siphoned from parked trucks?

Yes. With a level sensor or CAN data, a sharp drop while the engine is off triggers an alert.

Can theft be detected without a tank sensor?

If the vehicle exposes fuel data on its CAN bus, that can be used; otherwise a calibrated sensor gives the reliable reading.

Does it work with fuel cards?

Yes. Fuel cards are linked to vehicles, every refuel is recorded and compared with route and distance, with spending limits per vehicle, driver or branch.

When do I get the alert?

A sudden-drop alert arrives with time and location, and you also get a daily summary of suspicious events.

Does it cover generators and heavy equipment?

Yes, generator, heavy-equipment and fixed-tank monitoring is part of the fuel monitoring solution.
